The guy finally responded to my email with an offer and saying that I want it, but he said that
The scrapper is offering the same money and is picking it up tomorrow.
I sent an email back, offering him 50 euro more... No response yet...
wish me luck guys....

Clearly the solution is to sabotage the scrapper.
I also wonder if he's not just toying with you to get you to put out more money...

I really hope that you can convince him to sell it to you. It's way too good for ending up in crusher.

That was my first thought. Why would he want to sell the car to the scrapper anyways (even for the same money)?

I sort of translated the email:
''I agree it is a shame that it is going to the scrapyard.
scrapper offers -same money as I did-
too bad.
-name- ''

Damn. He's either screwing with you or just really doesn't care about the car. Did he reply to the +50 euro offer yet?

No...

Just wait and don't seem too desperate—there's still a good chance you will end up with the car. Even most non-car people hate to see cars get crushed when someone was in line to buy the car. People you meet through online dealings can be kind of strange. Good luck!

You know, what is even weirder, when we met him he was talking about how he has been driving Subarus for 15 years and that he bought the Leone because it was his first car, and that he was now looking at Foresters with a turbo.
But, when he handed the keys to the Leone, The other key on the keychain was a Peugot car key...

That is strange. I wonder what's going on there. And if the car has nostalgic value, why would he send it to its death? If you have his phone number, you should probably just beg for the car; that often works.
